Vacuum treatment of metal influences the reactions and process in which the gaseous phase participates. A gaseous phase can appear, for instance, due to the reaction of carbon oxidation with the formation of carbon monoxide, evolution of dissolved hydrogen and nitrogen from the metal or on evaporation of non ferrous metal impurities.

Hydrogen has a high mobility in molten steel, So that the main portion of the hydrogen contained in molten metal can be quickly removed by vacuum Treatment. However Nitrogen is less mobile in the metal. So that the intensity of melt cleaning from nitrogen in vacuum Treatment is substantially lower than from hydrogen.

Vacuum Degassing (V.D) of ladles with inert gas as the flushing and stirring medium is an easily - handled process that asks for low investment cost. Specific reactions are achieved with the inert gas by using basic slags Flushing with inter gas causes turbulence and thus larger reaction surfaces between the slag, Metal and Vacuum atmosphere. This produces greater homogeneity. More effective elimination of inclusions and better removal of hydrogen, Carbon and oxygen. If heat losses cannot be compensated, the treatment times and alloying possibilities are limited.
